I have been around photography for many years.
At first it was black and white for use with a telescope and
then because I was hooked. Later because it was the best way
to show the sky and world around me yet leave the mystery to
the viewer. Soon it was 4x5 and fiber paper in the darkroom.
That lasted for a while and soon the lure turned to a profession
and I found myself making photos for a living. I opened a commercial
photo studio and started shooting daily for 15 plus years. I
left the black and white behind except for the occasional job,
which when I look back were some of the most enjoyable. Many
years ago I started to learn Photoshop and do some work for early
web sites for my customers. Several years ago with a decision
to close the studio I become part of one of my customers business.
Regular paycheck, paid vacation, most weekends, all good and
I got to do his product photography. The job has grown and so
have I. For nothing but pure economics we switched to a digital
camera, an early cannon 10D, and retired the 4x5 view camera.
The job grew in other ways also I now head a 4 person busy graphics
department and the company has also grown. All this and photography
in particular black and white photography still haunted me. December
10th 2005 I did what was a must and put up the money for a digital
camera and started to develop skills that even as a commercial
photographer I never dreamed of acquiring. On this web site I
hope to share some of those skills and photos. I also hope to
inspire another in my love for the beauty of the black and white
image.
